The National News Bureau of Thailand launches new online media channels to connect people around the world both Thais and foreigners. Those channels include Thailand’s first 24-hour English-language Online TV programs via http://thainews.prd.go.th, plus social networking tools, such as Facebook and Twitter.

Ms. Ampawan Charoenkul, Director of the National News Bureau of Thailand and Spokesperson of the Public Relations Department said that the National News Bureau of Thailand is a news agency under the supervision of the Public Relations Department. The stated-owned agency is regarded as a center to disseminate news and information as well as publicize strategic policies and special campaigns promoted by the Thai government and other government agencies. The news and information are delivered through various formats, for example, news presentation, exclusive interview, special report and news documentary. Accuracy and reliability are the agency’s main focus. Thai and English-language contents can be viewed online at NNT’s website: http://thainews.prd.go.th. In additions, English-language TV programs can be watched at this website from December 2008 onwards. This is considered the first phase of the establishment of the 24-hour English-language television station.

Undoubtedly, since Thailand has been in the eye of international communities, these new media channels used to disseminate accurate and reliable news and information will definitely help the National News Bureau of Thailand stay connected to the world. The launch of NNT’s website--http://thainews.prd.go.th will provide a venue for internet users to gain more access to what’s happening in Thailand, especially Thailand’s first 24-hour English-language Online TV. The collaboration with news agencies in various countries, namely China Guangxi Television, Vietnam News Agency (VNA), National Television of Cambodia and Radio Television of Brunei have been continuely promoted in a bid to establish good relations with Thailand’s counterparts.

In addition, the National News Bureau of Thailand has recently opened up new channels of social networking tools which are Facebook and Twitter to support the news dissemmination to audience worldwide. This is considered the first time that this Government news agency has adopted these new tools for its publications, Ms Ampawan concluded.
